THE BRITISH CONSULAR ASSISTANT'S OFFICE IN GOA

   Our Consular Assistant in Goa, Mrs. Shipla Caldeira is part of the British Deputy High Commission, Bombay. The Second Secretary (Consular), Douglas Barrett, and his staff are here to look after the interests of British nationals visiting or living within the Consular District of Western India, including Goa. 
   If you are resident here, or are visiting for more than a few days, please, if you have not done already done so, complete a registration card available from Mrs. Caldeirea. Please keep your registration up to date , e.g. inform us of any change of address, and let us know if you leaving the country permanently.
OFFICE HOURS: Monday to Friday
Morning:   between 0830 hours and 1230 hours.
Afternoon: between 1400 hours and 1600 hours.

SOME SERVICES THAT ARE PROVIDED BY THIS OFFICE

1. Issue/ renewal of passport. 5 days
2. Registration of Birth. 5 days
3. Registration of Death. 3 days
4. Notarial acts (certifying the execution of a legal document) 1 day  

Things we can do for you in case of local difficulties

If arrested Visit you in custody as soon as possible after notification of arrest; provide a list of local lawyers; give general advice on local procedures; liaise with local authorities to provide doctors if necessary and to notify next-of-kin if wished.
In event of serious illness or accident 
(when friends/relatives are unavailable)
Contact hospital within 24 hours of notification, ask the Foreign and Commonwealth Office to contact next-of-kin; if the hospital is local, we can visit you with 2 days.
Death Ask the Foreign and Commonwealth Office to contact the 
next-of-kin, and give advice about arrangements for the burial or the repatriation of remains.
Money Advice on procedures for transferring money from the UK or elsewhere; contact friends/ relatives/ banks if other channels are unavailable; transfer money in emergencies.
Repatriation As a last resort, arrange repatriation at public expense, against an Undertaking to repay.
